As an emerging western Canadian kinetic artist, Thom McInnis expresses his unique vision through elegant mobile art.
Combining modern and kinetic art to create approachable, responsive pieces that engage viewers in a dialogue of shapes, space, color and movement, Thom’s pieces range from representational to stylized abstract and reductionist.
His medium consists primarily of aluminum fins and metal rods balanced in dynamic equilibrium with just the right amount of gravity to create a performance in a calming sensual way. Flight is a recurring motif in his work which includes several sculptures that incorporate repurposed airplane parts thereby affording them a chance to soar again.
Thom is a world traveller, always diving deep into life -- curious, thoughtful and playful, he shares his powerful and meaningful perspectives through art that moves. He is a fan of Calder, Mondrian, Miro and Vasarely.
