Jack Cowin's Bio
Jack Cowin (1947-2014) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He entered Indiana University with an eye on a career as a medical illustrator. Later transferring to fine arts and specializing in printmaking, he completed his BFA in 1969 and received his MFA from the University of Illinois in1971. Cowin then accepted a position in the Fine Arts Dept. at the University of Regina, teaching for 36 years, retiring in 2007.
A naturalist and skilled fly fisherman, Cowin’s delicate hand-coloured etchings and drawings are created with painstaking detail, precision and passion. His work has been shown throughout the United States and Canada as well as Europe and Asia. His watercolours, lithographs and etchings were the subject of the book, Country Pleasures, published in 1984.
