Opening Reception, Thursday, May 19, 2016 5 pm to 8 pm
Join us to honour the artwork and legacy of Jack Cowin who suddenly and sadly passed away in September 2014. As one of Saskatchewan's most prolific, successful and widely exhibited artists Jack's artwork can be viewed as part of the traditional, historical wildlife genre however the aesthetic and technical level of his practice went beyond the limits of these definitions. He worked endlessly with his chosen subjects to evoke artwork that is full of the respect and love he held for our natural environment. As a leader of the University of Regina printmaking department for over 40 years Jack Cowin influenced many artists. His encouragement of students to cultivate their skills to the high standards of which they were capable and his support of their endeavours has made long lasting impressions on the art world. Jack's work is highly collected both in Canada and the United States and is in more than 50 public and corporate collections, including the Prime Minister’s office and the National Gallery of Canada, as well as hundreds of private collections.
